Port La Floret

Whilst we liked Locturdy it is very limited and the decision to go to Port La Floret was not hard. Firstly the Tour de Finistere was due to finish there so Ayaya and crew will be around and secondly it is a "proper marina" and looks a lot nicer than going into Concarneau.

The sail was not bad it was just really grey with mist or rain in the air. the winds were light but it simply was cold and damp (there is a theme here). Upon entry there was some confusion with us and the boat in front being told to go to the same berth and upon questioning this advice received no response to either boat. We proceeded with caution as the entrance is narrow and shallow. We are a big boat with just two on board so we try to get line and fenders on in advance so that we are fully prepared. It is not always easy to tread water and move all the lines and fenders from one side to the other if the boat is being blown about and the road (river) is moving beneath you. Soon the dory was with us and we were told to "follow me". We kept going further and further into the marina and were directed to the very end of the basin close to everything, it was the most perfect berth.

The next morning Linda went to the office to pay the bill and we were told we had to move to a finger pontoon because the boat next to us didn't have enough room to get in! Well you should have seen the space, I think you could have got the Charlotte Rhodes in that space, completely nuts but we moved. The good thing about moving was that we could turn the boat around so that the cockpit was protected from the prevailing wind.

In the afternoon we went for a walk into the town of Floret using Google Maps I managed to direct us along a lovely main road and the long way around. When we arrived we found that we could have walked along the banks of the estuary and a golf course. There is not a lot in the town except a small supermarket which is surprisingly well stocked and an ancient church dating back to Tudor times, we did not go in.

The next day we decided to go to Concarneau with Matthew and Kerry but owing to language difficulties we found that there were no busses on Sundays… Wee agreed to go on Monday instead. On Monday morning we received WhatsApp message to say the Matthew and Kerry were going to work from the boat. We caught the bus and the bus driver told us that the return busses were either 13:22 or 18:20. We walked to the market as it was market day but soon the heavens opened so we ran to a bar and ordered some tea. As soon as the rain abated we went to the castle.. it was quite lovely but after about 40 minutes the rain came back and we got drenched. Worse there were no cafe's and all the places were serving lunch. We decided the weather was so miserable we would just get a toastie and get the early bus back. Unfortunately we missed the bus which apparently came at 13:11, so we went to the Office of Tourism to organise a taxi, the helpful lady tried to call a taxi for us with out luck, there are only two taxis in Concarnu and the first available was at 7pm. We has not choice but to wait for the 6pm bus. It poured all afternoon.
