What are we doing?

Palma - Alcudia

We left Palma and went anti-clockwise around the island first stopping off Es Trenc, it was horrid so after a short while we moved into the corner to try to get some protection from the swell. We managed to drop our anchor on some rock what looked like a clear patch turned out to be hard rock. I tried to bring up the anchor but it was having none of it I had no choice but to dive to find the cause of the problem. I soon found out… you could say it was the chance in a million but the anchor had wedged itself between a v-shaped crevice in the rocks. It took a lot of co-ordination but Linda had to drive the boat forward to take the load off the anchor whilst I stood on the rock and pulled it out of the crevice. It was not easy because every time Linda stopped motoring forward the load would come back on the chain and all the while I had to hold my breath. Eventually we were free.

We cleared out deciding to head along the East coast, and we headed to Portocolom, the swell and winds were opposed and so it was not the most enjoyable of sails and I spotted that we could shorten our journey and go into Porto Petro. We entered the harbour and I saw a nice buoy but the harbour master came out and told us to go around in circles whilst he moored another boat. By the time he had returned another boat had taken that buoy but before he came to us he went over to them and kicked them off. he then came to us an berated me for not having a booking and offered us a buoy near the entrance, take it or leave it he said, we took it, we should have left it. the evening was bliss and we were so pleased to be there but we had an awful night because the swell came in and we took the hit, it was one of our worst nights on the boat.

The following day we went straight to Port d'Alucdia it was an unwelcome €168 per night but a welcome place to be. The marina was lovely and we could have stayed a week if the prices had been more reasonable. There are lots of lovely restaurants and places to go. On the second day we hired a car and went to some lime scale caves much like those in Gibraltar. They were really well organised with groups all going through together and the visit culminating with a short concert in a big underground cave. I didn't do well with out visit to Alcudia as I didn't take any photo's, I must try harder in future.
