Ibiza - Majorca

We left Ibiza after breakfast as we had about 60 miles to go to get to Majorca. As we pulled out we were pleased to find a nice south westerly of around twelve knots giving us a good sailing direction. Once we have reached the end of the island we could see various other yachts that were also leaving Ibiza traveling towards Majorca so the race had started! It is always nice to try to beat other boats traveling in the same direction but the truth is it usually says more about the boat than the skills of the skipper.

We arrived late in the afternoon in Cala de Santa Ponca which is a small protected inlet. We hunted for a place to anchor but there was not room enough for us in the shallow part of the bay so we had to settle further out. The water unlike Ibiza where is is crystal clear was a shade of green, it was quite a surprise and a blessing. A blessing because we couldn't see the bottom which means we didn't have to worry about anchoring in weed.

The next day the winds were really south east which meant that whilst we had had a great sail to arrive when we did so we had arrived in a lee shore. It is another fifty miles to the northern of the island as as we have already made three quite long journeys no one was in the mood to go on another long trip.

I found a highly recommended bay called Sant Elm which looked as though it might just be protected from the winds and waves. We could not book a buoy so we had to just arrive and take a chance. When we arrived we were so pleased it was beautiful the water was azure and we grabbed a free buoy. Soon we launched the dinghy and went for lunch and to explore the lovely village if Sant Elm.

After lunch the harbour master arrived and relieved us of €100 for the night but would not allow us to book two nights we had to pay for tomorrow tomorrow.
