What are we doing?

Day 27 Oban - Loch Sunart

Linda had made some jam from a tray of strawberries she picked up in Tesco's so croissants and jam were order of the day for breakfast.

Linda went off for some last minute supplies leaving me to clean up and do some orders. Before she came back I whipped to the marina office and I paid the fee and there in a box was my new propeller - yes! I went straight back and fitted it.

As soon as Linda arrived we cast off and headed for Loch Sunart. This loch was more "Fjord" like than any we have been in so far it was really lovely but it was difficult to stop anywhere as it was nearly 100m deep almost to the shore. About two miles up the loch there is a village called Salen and it is an anchorage and there is a small marina too. We had planned to anchor in the bay but when we arrived it was full of buoys and none were suitable for Sea Crusader, they had been laid too close together so there was not enough swinging room for us. We decided to anchor outside as per the Clyde Cruising Club sailing directions. What they don't tell you is that you are anchoring on rock and it "graunched" all night, most unsettling.

  • Home made strawberry jam.
  • This is where we anchored (not a great choice).
