What are we doing?

Sines

Another 6am start for a long journey and we are soon passing Lagos and the famous well marked fish farms to the west. No sooner do we clear them when we enter a fog bank. The bank clears just in time for us to say goodbye to the Algarve and hello to the Atlantic.

The journey North in uneventful and the winds filled in allowing us to sail for about of the journey. We arrived at around 6pm and anchored. We had no intention of going into the marina as we planned an early start to Oerias (Lisbon) where we plan to have a lay day before moving on. Soon the nibbles and Roja were served. Twenty minutes later I declared myself unwell and was excused dinner. After a very traumatic night of sickness I finally emptied the entire contents of all that remained in my body and at 6am an ambulance was called, I was in trouble.

The marina at Sines was closed, it has been condemned as unsafe but this was an emergency. Ian and Gwyn more the boat onto the long pontoon as I was soon whisked away. The local hospital was very efficient and I soon on a ward with a drip in. I needed an endoscopy so the needed to send me to one of two hospitals about 70 miles away. They sent a doctor in the ambulance with me when I was being moved. the procedure did not take long and the gastrologist [sp?] said that I was suffering from gastritus and needed to permanently take pils to control my acid levels. They returned me to the local hospital in Sines where I was kept overnight, re-hydrated and mainlining other drugs!

I cannot than Ian and Gwyn enough for their support and also apologise to them for giving them such a fright.

I was released the following afternoon and we returned to the boat. The security staff at Sines were brilliant, they were fully supportive in my absence and allowed Sea Crusader to remain and even allowed it to be moved to a more protected spot.

Tomorrow we will depart for Oerias as originally planned but without the lay-day.
