Faro - Mazagon

We left Faro early in the morning to continue our slow rush to Cadiz. The Levante is running and has been for a few days and there is no end in sight of it. We can't get through the strait of Gibralta against it so we are just killing time where there isn't much to do, this part is very uninteresting.

We decided to head to Mazagon as they have both space and enough water for us. The sail was tricky sometimes there was no wind sometimes a little wind. Still we managed two hours of sailing and arrived at a reasonable time.

Mazagon is a clearly a popular holiday resort with the Spanish, no foreign tourists to be seen or heard. So as soon as we tied up we headed into town to get something to eat. Mazagon will never get any prizes from Michelin, we stopped at the first place in town and whilst it was popular with locals it really had nothing going for it.

The next day we went out to lunch and what looked to be a rather dingy restaurant by night turned out to look much better during the day and so that's where we went and it was actually quite nice local food. We don't speak Spanish and they spoke no English so it was a surprise! Seriously the food here is so cheap that it is easy to order a starter and find that it is enough for the whole table to share and that we had ordered four starters, they must think the English are greedy!

After lunch we went back to the boat and Linda and I decided we needed to cool off in the sea at the beach. We stopped at a cafe to take on liquids and then walked on to this massive beach that is more than five miles long and with people shoulder to shoulder. We walked down to the water's edge and the water was … brownish, hmm not sure about this. Then as we looked more closely we could see that the water was a mixture of water and seaweed fibres. We walked out into deeper water the water cleared and so I could see my feet. It was clear that the water was clean but off putting.
