What are we doing?

Easter Break

Easter was a good chance for us to enjoy the relaxation of the lock down rules. We had two night sin Lymington (House Hunting), two in the River Beaulieu and two in Newtown Creek.

We arrived in Lymington having booked in advance. Sadly disaster struck, the allocated berth had dock fenders which in combination with our fenders conspired to knock off our ladder and gouge our freshly painted topsides. We are both very upset and have since bought a rubber ladder as Linda needs a ladder to get off having had her knee replaced. Desty's say it is not an issue and they will fix it next week. I wonder how much this "not an issue" is going to cost? Needless to say that the stay was welcome I was able to raid the chandlers and fix all sorts of things but alas there were no houses for sale.

After two nights we went to the river Beaulieu for the peace and quiet and to read some books (a bit of work for me). To our surprise the sun came out when we had dinghy'd up the river to get some fuel for the outboard and as is was lunch tome what can you do… you have to try for lunch at the master Builders. And lucky we were we were given the most sheltered table in the place it could not have been better. The bottle of Côtes de Provence did not survive.

After two nights we left as soon as we could with the rising tide for Newtown. Given Sea Crusaders draft (2.3m)and the paucity of deep anchoring spots and the fact that we were only two days after springs we did not hold out much hope of getting a spot. Sometime fortune favours the brave and there it was the only buoy in the deep water free and we took it. We decided to stay for two days. It may not seem like much of an adventure for such a boat to move not more that about 12 miles in a week but there was no wind and if we had gone anywhere we would have had to motor. We were happy. After lunch an excited cry was heard from on deck and putting up my head Linda informed me we that the resident seals were on the bank near us. I stupidly did not fit my longest lens so the photo is poor.

At just about wine o'clock time Linda spotted Chris and Kim motoring past in their maxi 1100 Rumours. As they returned to their chosen spot we invited them to join us for drinks when they were ready. To our delight they came the next morning just as Linda was serving tea and freshly made scones.

The next day we woke up quite early to see a yacht had tried to leave the harbour on a falling tide and had gone the wrong side of the navigational buoys. They were unable to get off and suffer the ignominy of having to wait six hours for the tide to rise again with the whole anchorage to witness their predicament. there for the grace….

  • Disaster
  • One of the residents
  • Beatutiful anchorage not as busy as you might imagine.
