Day 47 To Stockholm

80 miles and no stopping as Geoffrey was to meet us today. We wanted to meet him in the afternoon so Linda and I got up at 5am. The alarm went off kettle on getting dressed… agh fog! We were really fog bound, we left it until 7am and left after three other boats had gone out but the visibility was only two boats lengths so whilst we had radar and AIS it was intimidating. 10 minutes later we were back, it was simply just white in the river with thick banks interspersed with tinnier banks.

We left at 8 some three hours late and the fog was thinner but within a mile we had exited the river into the sea and … there was no fog. If we had persisted it probably would have been ok.

We arrived around 7pm and Geoffrey who had used the time to visit some museums had to get the train to get to our marina. Unfortunately the train line was undergoing major building projects and so he had to catch a bus then a train. The problem is the system is so complicated, it took him nearly two hours to get to us.

We were very unhappy with the choice of marina, the WCC had made a booboo with the dates and put one set of dates in the hand book and a different set in the programme. We didn't pick up on this until it was too late so we left Mariehamn without spending any time there and when we arrived at Stockholm there was no one to meet us and we were directed to the other side of the marina to where the rest of the WCC fleet would eventually moor. We felt it was a shame that we weren't in a town centre marina, there are lots right in the city.
