Day 3 to Helford

We arrived in Salcombe yesterday morning at about 5am and grabbed a lovely mooring. It was such a relief to be in the calm estuary, we arrived just in time any longer and the seas would have built up further. Not a sole was seen moving at that time of day, we made some tea and crashed.

At 10:30 we got up had a late breakfast and struggled to comprehend the cold dark dank weather that was depositing steady rain on deck. We contemplated launching the dinghy for all of 5 seconds before concluding that the water taxi would be better as we could stand all the way. Once the crew were ashore they were in no mood for touring the town and finding a good place to eat, they found the first pub and we were in!

Back to the boat we watched the Amazing Amazon Prime documentary "The Weekend Sailor" which is the remarkable story of the first Whitbread Round the World Race. I commend it to anyone who hasn't seen it even if you are not interested in sailing this will put a smile on your face. Then it was early to bed.

This morning we left Salcombe to the river Helford and again the wind was from the North West and just a little bit too far behind us. It wasn't long though before we cleared the headland and had a favourable shift of wind so up went our splendid new pink cruising chute. We had a fantastic sail to Helford and we tried and tried but we unable to catch any Mackeral again.

On arrival we called the moorings manager and he had a mooring ready for us and Graham tried to book a table for food. No luck at the yacht club, the chef had given notice at short notice. Then the pub on the south bank had people queueing out the door so would not let us book a table. We went to the north bank where we had a splendid meal (Outside) in the Ferry Inn.
