What are we doing?

Day 20 Tobermory

Yesterday the first thing we did is move the boat to a buoy, £20 a night is much better than £50 and more comfortable and we don't need shore power.

We had a lazy day with a tour of the town a drink in a local pub and read books.

On Friday Linda was first up with a tasting session for Gin at the Tobermory Distillery. I used the time to read some more of the book by David Niven sand not much else. I had dropped Linda at the pontoon so after her session she went for a stroll around the shops and eventually it was my turn, whisky tasting… I took the dinghy ashore handed over the "keys" to Linda and she returned to the boat.

The tasting session was very interesting, in the Tobermory Distillery they make both peated and un-peated whisky. the un-peated whisky is sold under the "Tobermory" brand but the peated is labelled "Ledaig". We were given two glasses of the former and one of the later. The fist glass I had was very nice and was 25 years old and a snip at £320 a bottle. The second was 16 years old and a much more reasonable £120 a bottle. Unfortunately the third glass of peated was I would say undrinkable. I was like a glass of over smoked kippers. Interestingly it is 5 on the scale of smokiness with Laphroig at the top at 9. I have to say that this smelt far worse than Laphroig.

I went back to the boat and had tea and cake as Linda had made a new mocha cake. We had resolved to go for a walk and managed to get caught up in our reading and as we were due to go to Sea Rose for pre-dinner drinks we were late setting off. However we were told the falls were 15 minutes walk away. Well, things never seem to go to plan, we were met on the walk by another boat owner who suggested that we turned right as it brings you around in a circle. Linda then realised that this 15 minute walk was now 25 minutes and we had no idea if we were in front or behind the the half way mark and we didn't know if we should continue or re-trace our steps.

As it happens although we were far too late for serious drinks It was probably just as well because this morning I had a head…

After drinks on Sea Rose we all went ashore in our tender and had a nice meal at Cafe Fish. A most unlikely looking place but the menu was extensive and food good and reasonable. The dessert menu was good for those that like chocolate or coffee but a bit lacking for those that do not.
