What are we doing?

Day 1 Hamble - Dover

Graham Nixon and I left Hamble at 5:20 am with very little wind. The plan was to be in Dover in time to have dinner at the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club.

We hoisted the main in Southampton water and this added about ½ knot to our boat speed. The journey was largely uneventful and the weather was beautiful. This meant we had to motor sail the entire way which was a disappointment.

Along the way we had to brief encounters with some very small porpoises.

We arrived at about 19:20 which was perfect. I called the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club, who said we could only have dinner on a Tuesday if ordered 24 hours in advance. This was a shame as there was no mention of it on their website, their web site just says that meals are meals re served Monday to Friday 18:00-21:30. Luckily we found a hotel with a "Marco Pierre White" brasserie attached and had a great meal there. Alistair joined us at the restaurant.

As we were off Eastbourne the VHF crackled into life to issue an urge Gale warning for later… not sure if we are going to go tomorrow.
