Roscoff and Ile de Batz

We were excited to get to Roscoff because it is such a lovely town with a choice of restaurants and there are lots of walks. When we arrived we were shown to a strange location at the end of a pontoon on the inside. Once docked we have completely blocked the boats n either side of us in. The harbour master said it was okay because they were not going anywhere.

We had some lunch on board and them went straight down the town, not least because Linda and I wanted to get a gift for Ian whose birthday it was the next day. We found out that there was to be a celebration in the town and a fleet of boats decorated with flowers a mass and fireworks. We resolved to get the ferry to Ile de Batz, have lunch return watch the parade, skip mass (we did not take that seriously but we were wrong the priest was indeed there to bless something).

Ile de Batz was lovely and we decided that we would go to the Creperie at the end of the island for lunch. Upon arrival we found out that it was the most popular restaurant on the island and there was not a chance without a booking. We were a bit deflated but after about a ten minute walk we came across a food van selling toasties and wraps and as it happened it was the best option. That evening we were going out for a celebratory meal so something light was perfect. After lunch we completed our circuit of the island and took the ferry back…

The parade of flowers was underwhelming to say the least, we saw three random boats that had made the effort to take art and about 400 onlookers wondering what on earth were they supposed to be witnessing. However not all was lost because the priest had managed to set up over 100 chairs so that people could enjoy his blessing. Sadly we had to leave as we had to get changed for our evening meal.

We were so lucky, we had recommended an unlikely looking restaurant to Gwyn and we had forgotten how good it was, it wasn't just good it was brilliant. Gwyn ordered a vegetarian meal which was not listed and when it arrived it looked like they had spent hours in preparation it was fantastic. Even the wine they recommended was superb (the waiter was very sniffy in a charming way about Ian's choice) ian took their advice and we were all so pleased he did. Recommending a restaurant for a special occasion is always tricky but on this occasion it worked out really well.

After the meal was finished we went out onto the promenade and watched the fireworks, a perfect end to a perfect day.
