What are we doing?

Morbhian

Leaving Quiberon required an early start because we had to get out of the harbour before all the water drained out, so 7am was it. We had people outside us so they were forced to leave an hour earlier than they wanted but our keel is longer so they had no choice.

We were heading for the Morbihan because we are going to meet Ian and Gwyn on Vannes on the 6th. Nigel from Sea Rose has recommended an anchorage but the tide runs out of the Morbihan entrance at up to 7 knots so we decided to sail over to Houat and anchor for breakfast and then sail back to the Morbihan and the timing would be perfect, it was.

We followed the charts to the suggested anchorage and it was really peaceful. We were told that there was a market on Sundays so the next morning we were up and the sky was blue and what a difference. We launched the dinghy and were off to the shore. It was by far and away the best market we had ever seen and Linda was able to buy the most beautiful fresh fish amongst other things.

The next morning we received a WhatsApp from Malcom Denham who was in the area and suggested we met at an anchorage off Ile D'Arz. We arrived first it took about 45 minutes, the Morbihan is a natural harbour about 5 times the size of Poole Harbour. It contains a series of both inhabited and uninhabited islands with channels of deep water running between them and a long channel leading to Vannes and another to Auray.

We were a bit unsure where Malcolm was expecting us to go but we followed the advice in the pilot books and anchored at the southern end outside the no-anchoring zone. As soon as we were settled in I checked the AIS on our chart plotter and I could see "Misty Blue" entering the harbour; 45 minutes they were anchored between us and the shore. That evening they came to us for dinner, it was so nice to see them agin as we had not been together for over ten years as Malcolm keeps his boat here permanentally.

The next day we had a guided tour of the island and a lunch stop. It was a lovely day and finished with dinner on board Misty Blue.

Tomorrow we have an early start at we have to go up to Vannes with the tide and it is high tide arounbd 8:59
