What are we doing?

Pornichet

After all the long legs and early starts is was terrific that we had just one more leg to do and it os only 36 miles. This meant we had a casual start of around 9am. We could easily have stayed an extra day in La Trinite but I had a lot of jobs to do on the boat and it was forecast to be bad weather tomorrow so it was a easy decision to say good bye to Robert and Jane and get to Pornichet our chosen crew change destination.

The sail was quite forgettable and so we arrived in the very shallow bay outside La Baule and called the marine, "what is the size of your vessel" 16.5m I replied, "Say again you vessel length"! 16.5m "have you booked" … soon we were in and given a finger berth which is very unusual for us we are usually put on a hammerhead. Almost a soon as we had tied up I was into my jobs, number one was to remove the bilge pump and remove some debris from the bilge. The I was off to the chandler to buy a new catch as I have broken one after the excitement of fixing the shower pump issue after six years! That evening it was the final of the Euros and Bastille day. Well the Euros didn't end well for the Three Lions but the fireworks for Bastille day were fantastic.

The next day Nigel and Sally arrived on Sea Rose, they were drenched, we had made the right decision to move on the 14th. Sally insisted that we eat on Sea Rose that evening. I was still doing my jobs to get the boat perfect for when Linda arrives and I also had an appointment to Europe Car in La Baule at 4pm to collect a hire car so that I could take Graham to the airport and collect Linda.

When I returned from collecting the hire car the swell in the bay was huge as the rain was followed by strong on shore winds the marina was a good design and nothing entered so we were very comfortable on our boat. Sally cook a great meal and with Nigel's hospitality what more could you want?

Today I took Graham to the Airport and collected Linda. We went straight to the marina and unloaded had some lunch and then Nigel and Sally appeared as we had decided to do a supermarket run whilst the car was on hire. Once that was over we went back to the marine and there was just enough time for Linda and I to return the car, we arrived 1m late but nothing was said.

Afterwards Linda and I walked to the beach and sat leaning against the wall to keep out of the wind. This was one of the places we remember fondly from our first holiday as a married couple. However we could not relax for too long as Sally was expecting us at 6pm, as we walked back to the bus terminus I jokingly said well we could get the road train as it goes to Pornichet and would you believe it Linda ran for it! (Boy's your mum can run if she has a mind to!).

We had a fantastic meal with Linda providing starters/canapés and Sally cooking the fish. later I went and got a second bottle of port. The evening ended on a sad note for me, I fell over in the dark(Not drunk) and my beloved penknife my day had bought me 52 years ago fell out of my pocket. I didn't notice it was missing until the next morning I went looking for it but someone must have picked it up.
