What are we doing?

Cameret - Loctudy

We set the alarm for an 8am start to get the tide around to the Raz de Sein. There is a huge tidal race that we found last year and it is very important to get the tide right so we left at what we thought was the right time. Interestingly when we got out there were no other boats about, which is unusual as usually there is a mass exit at the same time with everyone waiting for someone else to make the first more. … I looked behind they had all followed us out of the marina.

As we approached the Raz there were a number of boats ahead of us that had emerged from other locations, I am pleased to say we passed them all. The very clean bottom and size and the right sail plan saw to that. This time we were on a dead run and so we polled out the genoa and pulled the main out in the opposite side of the boat and we were soon creaming along at 8knts dead down wind.

The Raz was entirely uneventful, which is exactly what you want and soon we started to turn east and in doing so pulled the main over and we were on a roll. 9.5knts and creaming along to the entrance to Loctudy. I had bee there before so entry was easy and I knew which side to put the fenders on.

We had had a cracking sail and best of all we had finished all the challenges, Lyme Bay, the Channel, Chenal du Four and Raz de Sein. From here on the sailing would be easier and shorter days…..

Then we got a message from Robert Vose (Another Southern Member, he was heading to La Trinite-sur-Mer, so we decided to join him and that will be another long day.
