What are we doing?

Sailing at last

We launched on Friday but it was too late to go anywhere so we spent the night in the Hamble. bending on sails and victualling the boat always takes more time than you think. Nigel and Sally Dick had sailed past and said that they were going to Studland and we had said we will catch them up but it was simply too late.

On Saturday we set off for Studland as they were staying another night. We had a lovely sail in light winds. We soon located them dropped anchor had some lunch and then went to join them for afternoon drinks… We have been to Studland many times before and at time speed boats and jet skis can be inconsiderate and power through the anchorage. On this occasion it was a nightmare as so many jet skis were blasting through the anchorage at 40knts with people swimming in the water, it is only a matter of time before they kill someone. The side effect of this is the water was so disturbed that both Linda and I started to get sea sick, eventually we returned to the relative safety of our boat, the extra weight and length meant that it was less affected but the waves. It was however a very unpleasant place to be.

We left this morning and sailed to Dartmouth. It wasn't the fastest sail and we only made it about half way across Lyme bay when we had to put on the engine.

"I don't think our fridge is working properly"

-Linda (Standing at the bottom of the companionway looking up at me)
Linda went bellow to make some lunch and soon appeared at the bottom of the companion way to let me know all our food was going off. Brilliant after a mini-refit and the first day of our holiday we find that our fridge isn't working.

Fortunately we have friends (Susan and Andrew) in Dartmouth and I sent them a text message to ask about someone who can fix it. Susan replied with the name of a chap and he says he is going to come and see us in the morning. We are so lucky, because there are not a lot of boat fridge engineers.

We arrived in Dartmouth and called the Harbour Master for a berth and he allocated us a mooring between two big yellow buoys. So we opened a bottle of Rose. We then called Susan and invited them for dinner and they are coming tomorrow evening.

  • Once it got dark and we had run out or Rose, what else could we do but open the Chardonnay
