Day 49 Stockholm Vassa Museum

We were collected by coach from the marina and went to the Vassa museum. The Vassa is a complete replica of the Mary Rose tragedy the ship sunk within fifteen minutes of its maiden voyage in the same circumstances. The boat was top heavy and the King had ordered that the guns be upgraded to bigger and heavier versions. Consequently the board of enquiry found that no one was to blame for the tragedy.

The boat was amazing well preserved as the baltic contains very little salt and no tide. When they discovered it they were able to raise it in one piece and re-float it.

After the museum Linda and I went to a quay side restaurant and the others went shopping. Eventually we all met up in town and we decided to go back early as we had sone jobs to do and wanted an empty boat to do them and Richard, Charlotte and Geoffrey decided to do more shopping and get the coach home. As it turned out it took Linda and I more time to get back by public transport so we all arrived together.
